done properly.

One to three day swim camps for age-group swimmers, led by a national-level sprinter and Level 2 coach. Live in-water demonstrations, small groups, streamed by ability — so every drill is understood, not just repeated.

Meet your coach

Ryan Larkin

I swam competitively for over a decade, spending two years at the Swim Wales High Performance Centre under Graeme Antswhistle, who has coached swimmers to Olympic medals. My main event is the 100m freestyle long course, with my favourite swim being splitting a 50.8 as part of a relay at the British summer championships 2025.

I'm a sports coach at Brighton College and a Swim England Level 2 coach. I've spent enough years on both sides of the lane rope to know what actually moves a young swimmer forward — and it's rarely more metres.

These camps are the sessions I wish I'd had at eleven: someone in the water in front of me, showing exactly what the drill is meant to look like.

How I coach

Four words on the whiteboard, every session

Everything we do in a camp comes back to these. They're simple enough for a nine-year-old to repeat and honest enough that they still hold at national level.

01

Quality

A length done properly beats ten done tired. We build the shape first and add speed to it.

02

Control

Body position, catch, breathing — deliberate, repeatable, under the swimmer's own command.

03

Awareness

How many strokes did you take on that length? What time do you think you went? A swimmer who knows the answer is already improving.

04

Fun

Swimmers who enjoy the work stay in the sport. Camps should feel like the best session of their term.

Why a camp

Demonstration is the fastest teaching tool we have

In a busy club session there's rarely time to get in the water and show a drill properly. A camp is built around exactly that — we demonstrate, they copy, we correct, they repeat it until it's theirs.

  1. They see it done, in the water

Live demonstrations of every drill, from the same eye level they'll swim it at.

  2. Drills that progress, not drills that fill time

Each drill earns the next one. Swimmers finish the day knowing the order and the why.

  3. Body position first

Almost every age-group time drop hides behind alignment. We fix it before anything else.

  4. They go back to club able to self-correct

The point isn't one good day — it's a swimmer who knows what a good drill feels like.

A day at camp

Every day at camp is different, built around whatever that camp is focused on. Most run something like this.

  1. Land warm-up & goals

Groups set, ability streams confirmed and one clear target each before anyone gets in.

  2. Swim sessions

At least two, every one of them built around the focus the camp is named for.

  3. Lunch or snack break

Length depends on the camp — each one says what to bring when you book.

  4. Debrief & awards

What changed, what to keep doing at club and awards before everyone goes home.

Rough is fine — it just helps me stream the groups fairly.
